Faugères, Hérault

Faugères is a commune in southern France, about 70 kilometers from Montpellier. It is located in the arrondissement of Béziers in the Hérault in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. The municipality has 148 inhabitants Faugères ( effective 1st January 2011) on an area of ​​2401 hectares and is located in 250 meters.

Location

The place is named after one of the most famous wine -growing regions of southern France. It is located 19 km south of Bédarieux on the road and railway line to Beziers. History

Faugères was already inhabited in Roman times. The remains of six Roman villas have been preserved. In Visigothic time here was a chapel. Canon law was Faugères to the nearby diocese of Lodève. In the 8th century the area suffered from incursions of the Saracens. 934 occurs the first mention of a "villa " in 1084 was a castle here after the famous vineyard " Châteaux de Faugères " is named. Attractions
