Fibis ( Fibisch German, Hungarian Temesfüves ) is a municipality in Timiş, Banat, Romania.

Geographical Location

Fibis is located in the north of the district Timiş, about 30 kilometers northeast of Timisoara, close to the border with the county of Arad. Through the town, the National Road DN691 Timişoara - Lipova.

Etymology

The place Fives was first mentioned in 1234. 1446 appears in the records the name Fyes and later Füves in Arad district. 1717 Fibesh notes with 20 houses in the country recording Joseph II.

History

Fibis is a town with a mixed population. The first inhabitants were Romanians. The first Germans settled around 1800 down here. Around the same time, Hungary were settled. 1815 belonged to the village of the landlords Carol Schwarzenberg. 1845 was the district owned by the Count of Hodos and Chizdia, George Sina.

Fibis was until 1967 an independent municipality. As a result of the administrative reform of 1967 Fibis was converted into a village and assigned to the management of community Maşloc. 2004, it came under the Law 84/2004, by separation of Maşloc to the re-establishment of community Fibis.

In 1777, a Romanian Orthodox religious school was certified in Fibis. The Catholic Church of the municipality Fibis was built in 1901 and renovated in 2001. In 2008, the church was re-painted, painted the benches and re-consecrated on 8 September 2008. Here is the oldest organ by Franz Anton Wälter, built in 1793.

On 4 June 1920, the Banat was divided into three parts as a result of the Treaty of Trianon. The largest, eastern part, which included Fibisch, fell to Romania.

As a result of the Waffen-SS Agreement of May 12, 1943 between the Antonescu government and Hitler's Germany all ethnic German conscript men were drafted into the German army. Even before the war, in January 1945, the deportation of all ethnic German women between 18 and 30 years and men aged 16-45 years was held kidnapped for construction labor in the Soviet Union. The land reform law of 23 March 1945 which provided for the expropriation of German farmers in Romania, the rural population deprived the livelihood.
