Jim Himes

James A. "Jim" Himes ( born July 5, 1966 in Lima, Peru ) is an American politician. Since 2009 he represents the state of Connecticut in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jim Himes spent his early childhood in Peru, where his father worked for the Ford Foundation. After his parents divorced, he moved with his mother and two sisters to New Jersey. There he visited the Hopewell Valley Central High School. Until 1988, Himes then studied at Harvard University and then to 1990 at the University of Oxford in England.

After his studies Himes worked in banking in Latin America and in New York. Since 2003 he has worked for non-profit organization Enterprise Foundation; in 2007 he became its vice president. Between 2003 and 2006, Himes also worked for the Building Authority ( Housing Authority ) of Connecticut. In 2006 and 2007 he was also a member in the Tax Assessment Commission of the city of Greenwich.

Himes is a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections in 2008, he was in the fourth electoral district of Connecticut in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he entered on January 3, 2009 to the succession of Republican Christopher Shays, whom he had defeated in the election. His current term of office runs until 3 January 2011. Himes is a member of the Finance Committee and the Committee on Homeland Security, as well as in two sub-committees.

With his wife Mary Jim Himes private lives in Greenwich.
