Kilifi County

Kilifi County (until 2010 Kilifi District ) is a county located in the Coast Province of Kenya. The capital of the county is Kilifi. In Kilifi County 1,109,735 people (2009) live on 12245.9 km ².

Structure

The Kilifi County is located north / northeast of Mombasa and is divided into seven divisions and three constituencies. The constituencies are Bahri, Whole and Kaloleni.

Ruins

In the county, south of the town of Kilifi, lies the ruins Mnarani consisting of the remains of a Swahili settlement dating from the 14th century. Visible are the remains of the city wall, a well-preserved large mosque, a smaller mosque from the 16th century and various stone tombs, including a large pillars grave.

Also located in the County, the ruined city of Jumba la Mtwana, a Swahili settlement dating from the 14th century.
