Le Poujol-sur-Orb

Le Poujol -sur -Orb is a commune with 1022 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Hérault in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. It belongs to the district Béziers and the canton of Saint- Gervais- sur- Mare. Mayor ( Maire ) since 2008 Francis Galbe. By 1921, the place was called Le Poujol only.

Geography

Le Poujol -sur -Orb is located in the Regional Natural Park of Haut Languedoc at an altitude 162-380 m above sea level at the foot of Mont Caroux in the valley of the Orb. The municipality covers 4.58 km ² ( 458 ha), and a population density of 228 inhabitants per km ².

Traffic

Le Poujol -sur -Orb is being developed by the department D908 road and a railway line. Small roads lead from here to the places Le Vernet and Combes. South of the town is located on the river another campsite.

Demographics

The largest population reached Le Poujol -sur- Orb, in the early 19th century, with over 1,300 inhabitants. 2005 was the first time reached a total population of about 1000 inhabitants by 1936.
