Lilleküla

Lilleküla is a municipality (Estonian asum ) of the Estonian capital Tallinn. The district is located in the Kristiine district.

Description

The district Lilleküla ( in German " Flower Village " ) has 23 356 inhabitants (as of 1 May 2010). Many street names are named after flowers.

Lilleküla has a high school ( Tallinna Lilleküla Gümnaasium ) and a railway station. In the district of Tallinn is a modern shopping center Kristiine Keskus.

History

The area was until the mid- 19th century, mainly meadows and pastures of the district Kristiina. It also emerged some summer houses. It was not until around 1860 grew denser development. With the construction of the station 1869/70 the population growth increased on both sides of the railway tracks steadily, dealing with the establishment of manufacturing plants (such as the corporation R. Mayer- works ) still increased.

In the 1920s, the district got its present name.
