Lutuhyne

Lutuhyne (Ukrainian Лутугине; Russian Лутугино / Lutugino ) is a city in eastern Ukraine with 18,240 inhabitants ( 2013). The city is the administrative center of Rajon Lutuhyne.

Geographical location

Lutuhyne is located on the right bank of the river Wilchiwka (Ukrainian Вільхівка ), a 83 km long tributary of the Luhan in the center of the Luhansk Oblast Raion Lutuhyne in the.

The city has a railway station and is located approximately 21 km southwest of Oblasthauptstadt Luhansk on the national highway, which meets 10 km further north on the international highway.

History

Due to the occurrence of coal, lime and sand a factory and a railway station was built at today's Lutuhyne 1897, resulting in a settlement called Schmidtowka (Ukrainian Шмідтовка ), according to a German entrepreneur named Schmidt developed.

The end of 1925 the place in honor of the Russian geologists Leonida Iwanowytscha Lutuhina ( 1864-1915 ) renamed Lutuhyne. Since January 3, 1965 Lutuhyne has the status of a city.

Founded in 1965 and managed by Lutuhyne from Rajon Lutuhyne located south of the Luhansk Oblast. It has an area of 1,057 km ² and a population of 67 623 inhabitants ( November 2012 ). The population density is 64 inhabitants of Rajons per km ².
