Nigerien constitutional referendum, 2010

The constitutional referendum in Niger in 2010 was held in the West African Republic of Niger on October 31, 2010. The new constitution was approved by more than 90 % of all votes cast. There observer of the UN and other international organizations were invited. The African Union described in a press release the conduct of the vote as " smoothly and successfully ."

Background

Preceded the referendum was a military coup by the incumbent President Mamadou Tandja of was driven from office. The new constitution, which was to vote, is the seventh in the history of independent Niger.
