Nová Ves nad Žitavou

Nová Ves nad Žitavou ( until 1927 slovak " Žitavská Nová Ves "; Neudorf German, Hungarian Zsitvaújfalu ) is a municipality in western Slovakia with 1333 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Nitra, a part of the Nitriansky kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in Danube hilly country, more precisely on the border between the subunits Žitavská pahorkatina and Pohronská pahorkatina. Through the town flows the eponymous Žitava that receives the stream Drevenica at the bottom. The center is located at an altitude of 152 m nm and is six kilometers from Vráble, 14 kilometers from Zlaté Moravce and 20 kilometers from Nitra away.

History

Nová Ves nad Žitavou was first mentioned in 1355 as Wyfalu writing. A kind predecessor was the village Jovka (Hungarian Joka ), which was mentioned in 1229 as terra Joka and lay on the opposite left bank of the Žitava. In the resort was a toll station, close to the border of Counties Neutra and bars.
