Piaggio PD.808

The Piaggio PD.808, also known as Piaggio -Douglas PD.808, is a building designed by the Douglas Aircraft Company in the U.S. transport aircraft built by Piaggio Aero Industries in Italy. The first flight took place in 1964, with most machines from the Italian Air Force ( Aeronautica Militare ) were ordered and not used until 2003.

History

Lack of interest and relevant orders from the United States Navy ( USN) was sold originally launched in 1957 project of the Douglas Aircraft Company to the Italian manufacturer Piaggio. This presented in August 1964 the first prototype completed and led to it by also the first flight.

Overall, only 29 machines were manufactured, including two prototypes and two seven-seater business jet. The remaining 25 aircraft ordered by the Italian Air Force ( Aeronautica Militare Italiana - AMI) and put some of them for the electronic warfare one.

The last PD.808 was made in 2003 at the AMI out of service. Several specimens have been preserved.
