Rapoltu Mare

Rapoltu Mare (deprecated Rapolt; German wholesale Rapolden, Hungarian Nagyrápolt ) is a municipality in the district of Hunedoara in Transylvania, Romania.

Rapoltu Mare is also known by the German name wholesale Rapolten and the Hungarian Magyarrápolt and Rápolt.

Geographical location

The community Rapoltu Mare is located on the right bank of the Mures ( Mures ), south of the Transylvanian Erzgebirge. In the middle of the circle, the community is located in the historical region of the county Hunyad (Iron market). On Lazu -Bach and the county road (drum Judetean ) DJ 107A located, the place of small town Simeria is about 7 kilometers north east ( fishing village ); the district capital Deva ( Deva ) is located about 17 kilometers west of Rapoltu Mare. Covering an area of about 8100 hectares, the four eingemeindeten villages located 2-9 kilometers away from the community center.

About seven kilometers east of Rapoltu Mare, in eingemeindeten village Folt ( Foldt ), performs a ferry across the Mures to the village Pricaz.

History

The place Rapoltu Mare was first mentioned in documents in 1346. On the basis of findings from Jaspisschmuck on the mountain Dobogo is, according to M. Roska the history of the settlement of the region, however, backdate to Neolithic times. Furthermore, were, according to G. Téglás, A. Fodor and J. pattern mountain Ohler on a larger area in a westerly direction ( Uroi, gold village), made ​​findings, which suggest a settlement in the Roman period; on the mountain Dobogo - east of Rapoltu Mare - pottery was found.

About 43 % of the municipal area is used for agriculture, 53 % is forested. Because of the thermal springs in the area of the municipality, the construction of a small recreation area is planned.

Population

In the 1850 census, lived on the territory of the present municipality of 3,305 people. 2,858 of these were Romanians, 188 Hungarians, 16 German and 243 others. The highest population ( 3,540 ) was achieved in 1880. The highest number of Romanians ( 3,191 ) in 1900, that of Hungary ( 278) in 1910, the Germans ( 50) in 1890 and the Roma (240 ) 1850 counted. In addition, in 1966, three, four in 1977, two in 1992 and 2002 indicated a population as Ukrainians. 2002 there were in the church Rapoltu Mare 2,066 people, of whom 2,011 Romanians, 13 Hungarians, a German, 40 Roma and a Ukrainian.

Attractions

  • The Hungarian Reformed Church Hall, built in the 14th century, with a polygonal apse and a net vault from the 16th century, is a historical monument. The tower and the main portal of the church located on the south side. In the church Gothic wall paintings are barely recognizable. In the wall of the church, a Roman Lion is walled.
