The Ruta 1, also called Mariscal Francisco Solano López, is a highway in Paraguay. The road connects the capital Asunción with Encarnación near the border with Argentina. The Ruta 1 370 km long.

Street Description

The Ruta 1 starts in the capital, Asunción, this is also the largest metropolitan area of Paraguay. The road runs through a large part with built-up area and better developed city streets with lots of traffic. The road runs through Itá about 40 kilometers through densely populated areas. Between Asunción and San Lorenzo street has 2x2 or 1x4 lanes, beyond the cities, the road is mostly single track.

Outside the region of Asunción, the Ruta 1 leads to the south by a relatively flat land with several villages in the area. This region is forested, but has some sections several open areas with fields. Most places on the route have a lattice structure; Ruta 1 runs thus through many capitals since no bypass roads are available. The south of Paraguay is less densely wooded, open spaces dominate here. After San Ignacio, where the Ruta 4 branches off to Paso de Patria, the Ruta 1 leads eastwards to the reservoir of the Río Paraná. The last kilometers to Encarnación again consist of 2x2 lanes. At the border with Argentina a cable-stayed bridge has been built. On the Argentine side is the Ruta 1 further than RN12. In the north of the city, the 247 km long Ruta 6 branches that leads to Minga guazú.

History

The Ruta 1 is traditionally the most important route in the south of Paraguay and a connection between the two great rivers Río Paraguay and Rio Parana. In 2012, the entire route was paved. At the border with Argentina a large cable-stayed bridge is built, the 2,550 -meter-long Puente Internacional San Roque González de Santa Cruz, which has a main span of 579 meters. The bridge was opened to traffic in April 1990.

The Ruta 1 called Mariscal Francisco Solano López is named after the second president of Paraguay Francisco Solano López ( 1827-1870 ) named in whose tenure the disastrous Triple Alliance War ( 1864-1870 ) falls.
