The Ruta 5, according to Grail. Bernardino Caballero named, is a trunk road in Paraguay. The road continues as an east- west connection through the Gran Chaco of Pozo Colorado to Pedro Juan Cabellero to the border with Brazil. It is 355 km long.

Street Description

The Ruta 5 begins in Pozo Colorado at an intersection with Route 9 in northern Paraguay. The road runs due east through the Gran Chaco. The environment consists of dry area with a mixture of meadows, scattered trees and low reforestation. There are no villages on the first 150 miles to the city of Concepción, the main town on the route. The road crosses the Paraguay River over a bridge; then the road leads 40 km to the east after Horqueta. In Horqueta the Ruta 5 then continues in a northeasterly direction. Then there are still about 160 kilometers to Pedro Juan Caballero. In Yby Yau the road runs on a common route with the Route 3 in the border city of Pedro Juan Caballero, a short section with two lanes is expanded with two lanes. On the Brazilian side is the road as BR -463 up to Dourados their continuation.

History

The Ruta 5 has always been the most important east -west connection in the north of Paraguay. It is one of the few roads in the northern Paraguay, which is paved. On the entire length of it is paved. The bridge over the Río Paraguay in Concepción was opened circa 1988.
