Sânmihaiu Român

Sanmihaiu Român (also Sinmihaiu Român, German - Romanian Saint Michael, Saint Michael's Romanian, Hungarian Oláh - Szentmihály, Oláhszentmihály or Bega Szentmihály, Bégaszentmihály ) is a municipality in Timiş, Banat, Romania. The community Sanmihaiu Român are the villages Sanmihaiu German ( German German - Saint Michael, Saint Michael German ) and Utvin affiliated.

Location

Sanmihaiu Român located in the center of the circle Timiş, in 13.2 km away from the district capital Timişoara and has an area of 88.5 square kilometers. The associated villages Utvin Sanmihaiu and German are 3.2 km and 4.9 km from the municipal center. Sanmihaiu Român located on the county road DJ591, by the place with Timişoara is connected, and at the railway Timişoara Cruceni.

History and etymology

Sanmihaiu Român was first mentioned in 1327 in the papal Zehentlisten. In Luigi Ferdinando Marsigli records from the years 1690-1700 the place " SentMihai " is listed. In the conscription of 1717 has " St.Mihal " 43 houses. At the Mercy map from 1723 is " St.Mihall " is entered. " St.Michal " appears on a map from 1761.
