Satawan

Satawan (also Satowan ) is an atoll in the Pacific Ocean. Geographically, it belongs to the archipelago Mortlock Islands in the archipelago of the Caroline and politically on the island region in the state of Chuuk Mortlocks the Federated States of Micronesia.

According to the 2000 census, the atoll has a population of 2935th of the total area of 419 km ² ( the lagoon ) account for only 5.1 square kilometers of land area.

Islands

The following list of 33 named islands ( motus ) is incomplete. It begins in the north with Moch ( More) east of the North Channel, and continues clockwise:

The southernmost island is located in the southeast of the island of Ta, one of the four main inhabited islands and community centers. Ta is the same with 8.8 km in length ( distance) is by far the longest island, although it is barely 400 meters wide at its widest point in the southwest.

Less than 500 meters to the east / north-east of Ta is the eponymous main island of the atoll, Satawan, but laminar largest and easternmost island of the atoll.

The westernmost island is Kuttu, also inhabited and community.

The northernmost island of the atoll is the uninhabited island Alengarik in the northwest.

Moch ( More), the fourth of the inhabited islands, is also located in the Northwest.

Management

On the atoll Satawan account for four out of the 40 municipalities of the State of Chuuk. They are according to the four main islands ( motu ) of the atoll named, which are the four largest and the only inhabited the atoll at the same time:
