Sibulaküla

Sibulaküla ( in German " Onion village" ) is a district (Estonian asum ) of the Estonian capital Tallinn. It is located in the district Kesklinn ( "downtown" ).

Description and History

Sibulaküla has 2,033 inhabitants (as of 1 May 2010).

The neighborhood was almost completely destroyed in the devastating attack by the Soviet Air Force on Tallinn from 9th to 10th March 1944. During the Soviet occupation of Estonia new buildings were erected within the meaning of socialist urban planning Tallinn on the land released.

So emerged in Sibulaküla include the seat of the Estonian Communist Party (now the main building of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Estonia ) and the Hotell Olümpia. The reason for the hotel construction were the Olympic sailing competitions of the 1980 Summer Games, which were held in Tallinn.
