Village of St. Martin

The village of St. Martin was born in the Middle Ages on the western shore around a Passer already mentioned in documents in the 12th century (now refurbished in baroque style ) parish church. The closed center is characterized by guild houses with partially painted facades in which today are restaurants and shops.

Seat of Passeirer school of painting, an art school of baroque frescos and wall painting ( 1719-1845 ), was the so-called painter house with mantle division fresco of the eponymous local saint on the outside wall. The founder of this school of painters were father and son, Nikolaus Auer, acting as fresco painter in the entire valley pass eggs pupil Josef Haller, and father and son Benedict Auer.

A small museum documenting historical tools in the peasant household and on the field.

The fortified like a castle designed Schildhof stone house is set on the hillside above the town center.

Saltaus

Saltaus (it. Saltusio ) is the southernmost group of the municipality with approx. 350 inhabitants in 500 m height approx. 9 km from Merano; from the nucleus it is still 7 km away. As the cable car station at the height of the plateau below Hirzer ( 2,781 m) it is the starting point for many hiking trails on the mountain pastures around the mountain station (about 2,000 m ) and the ascent of the Hirzerspitze. The name derives from Latin saltus ( = the canyon), which was already known to the Romans might, who had created a connection path to Jaufenpass.

The now been converted into a hotel Schildhof from the 12th century, medieval customs house of the Counts of Tyrol. Of the 11 obtained in pass eggs residences of the privileged by weapons and upscale services in the lower nobility farmers this is the oldest.

Sorgente ) about 2 km up the valley is one of two family hotel complexes dominated the upscale residential complex with 4- hole golf course, riding stable and spa facilities. North of this hotel complex a challenging 18 - hole golf course stretches along the grassy slopes east of the register and in the valley along the river with 7 ponds, practice facilities, clubhouse and restaurant operations.

Close to the golf course on the paved road branches off from the Pfandleralm. This has become known by that of the Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer was hiding in January 1810 in the last weeks before his capture in a log cabin; where he was found and betrayed by a farmer.
