Steegen

Steegen is a municipality in Upper Austria in the Gries district churches in Hausruckviertel with 1037 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The municipality is located in the judicial district Peuerbach.

Geography

Steegen situated at an altitude of 380 m above sea level. A. in Hausruckviertel. The expansion is 4.1 kilometers from north to south, from west to east 6.4 km. The total area is 13.2 km ². 9.1% of the area is forested, 81.8 % of the area is used for agriculture.

The municipality comprises the cadastral Steegen.

Coat of arms

Blazon: In green three silver, two asked one horseshoe, about a golden, elevated, angled left dock. The municipality colors are green and yellow.

The coat of arms granted in 1989 symbolized by the slanted bridge the place name. The Three Horseshoes are taken from the coat of arms of Eisterer, the owner of the Steegerhofes, the former castle Steegen once were. At the same time they point to the agricultural character of the community.

History

Originally in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria lying, was the place since the 12th century the Duchy of Austria. Since 1490 he is the Principality ' Austria above the Enns ' attributed. During the Napoleonic Wars, the place was occupied several times. Since 1918, the town belongs to the province of Upper Austria.
