Thomas Jefferson Wood

Thomas Jefferson Wood ( born September 30, 1844 Athens County, Ohio, † October 13, 1908 in Crown Point, Indiana ) was an American politician. Between 1883 and 1885 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1853 Thomas Wood came with his parents in the Vigo County, Indiana, where he attended the public schools. He then taught for two years even as a teacher. After a subsequent study of law in Terre Haute and at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and its made ​​in 1867 admitted to the bar he began in Crown Point to work in this profession. Between 1872 and 1876 he was a prosecutor in Lake County.

Politically, Wood was a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1878 and 1882 he was a member of the Senate of Indiana. In the congressional elections of 1882 he was in the tenth constituency of his state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Mark L. De Motte on March 4, 1883. Since he has not been confirmed in 1884, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1885.

After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives Thomas Wood again practiced as a lawyer. He died on October 13, 1908 in Crown Point, where he was also buried.
