Walton County (Georgia)

The Walton County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Monroe.

Geography

The County is located in north-central Georgia and has an area of 855 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Oconee County, Morgan County, Newton County, Rockdale County, Gwinnett County and Barrow County.

History

Walton County was formed in 1818 as the 46th County of Georgia. It was named for George Walton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and later governor of Georgia and U.S. Senator.

According to the census of 2000, there were 60 687 people in Walton County. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 94.9 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.0 males.
