Zákupy

Zákupy ( German imperial city ) is a small town on the Svitávka in the North Bohemian Okres Ceska Lipa in the Liberec Region in the north of the Czech Republic.

The best-known attraction is the 1306 first mentioned Zákupy Castle, which was rebuilt in the second half of the 17th century in Baroque style.

History

In the Middle Ages the castle and lands owned by the lords Berka of Dubé. From 1632 belonged to the town and castle imperial city of the Dukes of Saxe- Lauenburg, the last owner of this family was displaced heiress Anna Maria Franziska, married Duchess of Tuscany († 1741).

From 1805, the castle belonged to the Habsburgs. Emperor Franz I of Austria wrote about it in 1818 to his grandson Napoleon Franz Bonaparte, who then held the title of Duke of Imperial City. He was the only legitimate male descendant of Napoléon Bonaparte and died in 1832, without having the city ever visited.

From 1848 was one of the Imperial City Age seats abdicated Emperor Ferdinand. The city was formed here from the mid-19th century, a municipality in the district court or in the district Niemes Bohemian Leipa. On July 8, 1876 here negotiated the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph and the Russian Tsar Alexander II on Austria's neutrality in the Russo- Turkish War. 1900 the wedding of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria with Countess Sophie Chotková of Chotkowa took place in Empire City.

In Imperial City was built in 1851 by Ferdinand Leitenberg, a retired kk Captain, the first volunteer fire department throughout the Austro-Hungarian Empire was founded. By 1945 imperial city was mainly inhabited by German Bohemia, who were expelled.

Community structure

The city Zákupy consists of the districts Božíkov ( Götzdorf ), Brenna (focal ), Kamenice ( German Kamnitz ) Lasvice ( Klemens village), Sidlov ( SCHIEDEL ), Veseli ( Wesseln ) and Zákupy ( Imperial City ). Basic settlement units are Božíkov, Brenna, Kamenice, Lasvice, Nové Zákupy ( New Imperial City ), Nový Sidlov ( Neuschiedel ), Stary Sidlov ( Altschiedel ), Veseli and Zákupy.

The municipality is divided into the Katastralbezirke Božíkov, Brenna, Kamenice u Zakup, Lasvice, Stary Sidlov, Veseli nad Ploučnicí and Zákupy.
