1935 Grand Prix season
In the 1935 Grand Prix season was the first European Grand Prix, held based on the results of some selected Grands Prix. The Grand Prix racing increasingly came under the dominance of the big factory teams, in particular Mercedes -Benz, Auto Union and Alfa Romeo. Private driver and smaller teams placed their bets more on sports car racing and race of Voiturette class. The 1935 season was dominated by Mercedes, the tip of the driver Rudolf Caracciola won the first European Championship title. More drivers for this team were von Brauchitsch and Fagioli. Competed among others, stucco, Varzi and the newcomer Rosemeyer for Auto Union. Top pilot at Alfa Romeo was Nuvolari, who scored a sensational victory at the GP of Germany.
GP of Monaco
The Mercedes driver Luigi Fagioli won the GP of Monaco on April 22, 1935 with a start - to-finish victory. Behind fought Philippe Étancelin on Maserati and Rudolf Caracciola in a Mercedes a thrilling duel that ended with technical defects but both vehicles. The cars of Auto Union were not at the start.
GP of Tunis
The Grand Prix of Tunis was held on 5 May 1935 on a 12 km stretch of Tunis. Auto Union pilot Achille Varzi initially wanted to start private, then received but the support of the work; Mercedes did not compete. As in previous years, dominated Varzi in Tunis and gained prominence with just under 4 minutes.
GP of Tripoli
The GP of Tripoli on the high speed line Mellaha in the then Italian province of Libya was held on 12 May 1935. A high price money cared for a large field of starters, all the top teams were at the start. In the race Varzi soon took the lead, but was involved in a duel with Nuvolari on Alfa Romeo. The high gas mileage of his car Nuvolari forced into the pits and a puncture threw back Varzi, Caracciola Mercedes was the winner.
On 26 May 1935, discharged in three passes AVUS race was held on the AVUS. For excitement a young rookies made at Auto Union, Bernd Rosemeyer, who played for the first time a car race, which qualified immediately for the front row, but left after three rounds. The four best forward travel of each qualified for the final. On the high- speed line there were numerous punctures, in the end won Mercedes driver Fagioli his second race this year.
The Eifel Race at the Nürburgring on June 16, 1935 was considered by the racing teams in preparation for the later held in the GP of Germany. With changing conditions, the spectators saw a duel between the experienced and the novice Caracciola, Rosemeyer, who only made his second car racing. With two laps to Rosemeyer even went in, just before closing Caracciola overtook him again and win a narrow victory.
GP of France
To take advantage of the powerful German team its advantages, the organizers of the GP of France built on June 23, 1935 in Montlhery three additional harassment in the route. First, these led the Alfa Romeo of Nuvolari and Chiron, after they have left but no one could prevent a double victory for Mercedes.
Penya Rhin GP
The Penya Rhin Grand Prix was held at the Circuit de Montjuïc on 30 June 1935 in Barcelona. The Team Auto Union renounced the start, to prepare for the GP of Germany, and so Mercedes was safely double winner.
GP of Belgium
The GP of Belgium on July 14, 1935 in Spa -Francorchamps was the first run, which belonged to the European Championship. Nevertheless Auto Union renounced the start, had called a total of only ten vehicles. Caracciola took the lead, but was ruthlessly harassed by his teammate Fagioli. During a pit stop came Fagioli and Mercedes racing manager Neubauer about it in such a fierce war of words that Fagioli got out and the previously secreted by Brauchitsch took over his vehicle. Caracciola won yet safely.
GP of Germany
For GP of Germany at the Nürburgring on July 28, 1935 were the two German teams with a large array of cars and mechanics. Initially led Caracciola, but was attacked soon as the Eifel race of Rosemeyer. A puncture threw back Rosemeyer, Caracciola also had problems and Nuvolari took the lead. When he came to the pits for refueling, the tank system at Alfa Romeo was broken, the gasoline had to be filled by hand and Nuvolari went back into the race in sixth. There followed a remarkable comeback in which he advanced all the way to Rank 2. On the last lap Nuvolari overtook still the leader von Brauchitsch, who had to contend with tire problems, and eventually won the race, which is considered one of the best in Grand Prix history. The organizers had expected as a German victory that not even the Italian anthem was prepared for the ceremony.
The Coppa Acerbo was held in Pescara on 15 August 1935. Mercedes was not at the start, and so Auto Union celebrated a superior double victory, the third-place finisher Brivio was already back about 9 minutes.
GP of Switzerland
In the pouring rain the Switzerland of the GP was held on 25 August 1935 in Bremgarten near Bern. "Rain Master " Caracciola was once again up to his reputation and won the race clearly ahead of his teammate Fagioli.
GP of Italy
The Monza circuit was equipped for the GP of Italy on September 8, 1935 with some additional harassment. For Mercedes it was a black day, all vehicles fell out, only five vehicles finished the race. At the end of Auto Union pilot Hans Stuck won before Nuvolari, who took over Dreyfus ' vehicle.
GP of Spain
The GP of Spain took place in Lasarte at San Sebastian on 22 September 1935. Transmission problems and other incidents threw back the Auto Union pilot Hans Stuck, who had led up to half. The race ended with a triple victory for Mercedes. Caracciola also won the European title.
The last major race of the year was the Masaryk Grand Prix at the Masaryk Circuit in Brno on 29 September 1935., Mercedes was not started, so Rosemeyer won his first race car. In the end he had more than six minutes ahead of his pursuers.
The Grands Prix of Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Spain belonged to the Grand Prix championship.
Scoring: There was 1 point for the winner, 2 points for the second and 3 points for the third party. 4-7 points was awarded to the driver who drove at least 75 %, 50 %, 25 % and less than 25% of the race distance. 8 points received all who have the race not contested.
