Background

After the first race of the season, the Grand Prix of Argentina in 1957 only attended the two Italian top teams Ferrari and Maserati, various British teams were at the Monaco Grand Prix with BRM, Vanwall, Connaught and Cooper Car Company there. The field of riders increased from 14 drivers in the season opener on 21 drivers who were registered for the Grand Prix of Monaco.

In preparation for the Grand Prix Ferrari was hit by several tragic events. Eugenio Castellotti and Alfonso de Portago died in accidents and therefore Cesare Perdisa ended his career. Race
