The two McLaren team-mate Ayrton Senna and Gerhard Berger qualified for the front row before the two Williams of Riccardo Patrese and Thierry Boutsen and the two Ferrari of Nigel Mansell and Alain Prost.
Senna was the only one who reached over 200 km / h during his fastest lap average speeds. He succeeded on both training days.
Race
Senna went first before Berger, Boutsen and Prost in the lead. In the eighth round Berger was overtaken by Boutsen.
On the approach to a pit stop Boutsen rammed one of the dogs down for him tire and damaged thereby his front wing. After a collision with the to be lapped Satoru Nakajima also Ayrton Senna had an unscheduled visit the boxes. This came in the lead and Prost won ahead of Berger, Senna, Mansell and Boutsen.
