1994 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship

The Volleyball Women's World Cup 1994 was held from October 17 to 30 held in Brazil. Cuba won for the second time the title. The Games were held in São Paulo and Belo Horizonte. The German women landed at the first World Cup after reunification on a good fifth place.

Mode

The sixteen participants played in the first round in four groups of four. The group winners were set for the quarterfinals. The runners-up and third reached the knockout stages. The losers of the quarter-finals played at the ranks of five to eight, the winner determined in the semi-finals and final to the new World Champion.

Qualification

Brazil hosts and defending champions Russia qualified automatically. The reigning continental champions from Europe ( Czech Republic moved as a finalist instead of Russia after ), Asia ( China), South America (Peru ) and the NORCECA (Cuba) had their launch site also safe. The other participants were determined in qualifying tournaments, in which teams from different continents were merged.

Europe and America

The teams from Europe and America were divided into seven groups, the winners of which qualified to the World Cup.

The games in Group E were held in Porto from 28th to 30th October. In this case, the German women, the group managed victory against Greece, Slovenia and Portugal. In the groups F and G, Azerbaijan and Ukraine prevailed.

Asia

In Asia, five teams competed for the qualification. Japan took advantage of the home court advantage and won without dropping a set against Kazakhstan and Australia. South Korea defeated Taiwan in Taipei hosts twice with 3-0.

Africa and Oceania

From October 9 to 11 played Kenya in Nairobi and Australia three times against each other. After two wins (3-0 and 3-1 ), the hosts have managed the qualification and subject in the last game with 1:3.
