Rise

The 1st FC Kaiserslautern, who had won in the descent 1996 the DFB Cup, made ​​the direct promotion back to the Bundesliga. The team remained unbeaten at home, scoring the most goals in the league. With Hertha BSC another history, the club returned, VfL Wolfsburg managed, however, for the first time the jump in the Bundesliga.

Top Scorer of the season was Angelo Vier from relegated Rot-Weiss Essen with 18 goals. In the squares landed Steffen Heidrich from VfB Leipzig with 17 goals and Axel Kruse Hertha BSC with 15 goals.

Remarkable

The 7:6 of the 1st FC Kaiserslautern against SV Meppen on the last day is still the highest-scoring game in German professional football.
