2004 IIHF Women's World Championship

The 9th World Ice Hockey Championships for women in 2004 were held in four tournaments between March 14 and April 6, which were attended by a total of 27 teams.

Top Division

From March 30 to April 6, 2004, the top division of the Women's World Cup was held in Canada in Halifax and Dartmouth. It was played at the Halifax Metro Centre and the Dartmouth Sportsplex. Because of the failed World Cup last year participated in this year exceptionally nine teams in this tournament. World Champion of the year 2004, the Canadian ice hockey team of women from the United States and Finland. For Canada, it was the eighth title at the eighth World Cup. However, there was in the first round, the first World Cup defeat for the Canadians against the United States.

Mode

It was played in three preliminary groups A-C. Group D

The final round of the three winners was held at the Halifax Metro Centre. The teams ranked one and two qualified for the finals, while the third-placed team played for the bronze medal.

Group E

The qualifying round, which was attended by the three runners-up the previous round, was also played at the Metro Centre.

Group F

The relegation round of the three last placed athlete was held in Dartmouth Sportsplex. As the Chinese team won their two games, it remains in the top division of the World Cup, while the Swiss and the Japanese team relegated to the Division I.

Division I

From 14 to 20 March 2004, the World Championship Tournament Division I in Ventspils was held in Latvia. Six teams took part. The winner went straight on into the World Cup group. There were two relegated from the World Cup group this year, soared this year, the two last placed into the Division II.
