2008 Caribbean Cup

The Digicel Caribbean Cup 2008 was the 14th playout of the Caribbean Football Championship. The competition began with the first round of qualifying on July 27, 2008. Finals took place from November 1 to December 17, 2008 to Jamaica instead. The matches were played in Jarett Park in Montego Bay and in the Greenfield Stadium in Trelawny Parish at the National Stadium Independence Park in Kingston. Title sponsor of the tournament was the telecommunications company Digicel, based in Jamaica.

The four best teams in this tournament took part in the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2009. Besides the winner Jamaica, these were Grenada, Guadeloupe and Cuba.

Qualification

A total of 23 teams had registered for the competition. Defending champion and host Haiti Jamaica were settled without qualifying for the finals. All were members of the Caribbean Football Union, a regional subsidiary of the CONCACAF.

The Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, Montserrat, Puerto Rico, Turks and Caicos Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands and St. Lucia did not take.

French Guiana and Sint Maarten withdrew just before the start of the qualification, so that ultimately 16 teams competed in the first and three more in the second round of qualifying.

First round

The first round of qualifying consisted of five groups. The group winners and the four best runners-up will qualify for the second round.

Group A

All games were held in Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad, Curaçao.

Group B

All matches were played at the National Stadium in Providence, Guyana.

Group C

All games were held in the Truman Bodden Stadium in Georgetown, Cayman Islands.

Group D

All games were held at Warner Park in Basseterre on St. Kitts and Nevis.

Group E

All games were held in Fort- de -France in Martinique at the Stade Louis Achille.

2nd round

For the second round the teams from Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago and Guadeloupe were set. The group winners and runners- qualified for the final tournament.

Group F

All matches were played at the Stade René Serge Nabajoth in Les Abymes on Guadeloupe.

Group G

All matches were played at the Estadio Pedro Marrero in Havana, Cuba.

Group H

All games were held in the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya on Trinidad and Tobago.

Finals

It was played in two groups of four teams. The top two teams in each group qualified for the semi-finals and the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2009.
