2008 UEFA European Under-17 Championship

The 26 U-17 Football Championship was held in Turkey from 4 to 16 May 2008. Spain was the 8th time European champion and successfully defended his title thus. In the final, the Iberians France defeated 4-0. Germany and Austria could not qualify, Switzerland difference in the group stage.

The final round was played in three stadiums in Antalya: In the World of Wonder Football Centre (550 seats), the Mardan Stadium ( 7,428 seats) and the Antalya Ataturk Stadium ( 11,738 seats), in the latter only in the knockout round was played.

Qualification

The qualifying was attended by 52 teams. These were divided into 13 groups of 4. The groups have been played on a few days in the fall of 2007 at a participating in the group of countries, including Germany. From these groups 28 teams came into seven groups of 4 of the second qualifying round, at the still attended by all German-speaking countries. The group winners of the second qualifying round qualified alongside host Turkey for the final round.

Mode

The four teams in each group came together once each, with the winner of a match given three points and in the case of a tie, both teams one point each. The most points in each group met in the semi-finals, where each winner of a group played against the runner-up of the other group. The winners of the semi finals determined the European champions in the final.
