2009 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship
The field hockey European Championship Men 2009 was held in Amstelveen from 22 to 30 August. It was the twelfth edition of the field hockey championship of men. The winner was England, which defeated the German national team with 5:3 goals in the final. The British thus secured their first European title. The German team missed a historic third European Championship victory in a row and the first men's team in hockey history to be simultaneously Olympic, world and European champions.

Descent games
The Third and Fourth of both groups form a descent group. The two latter must descend into the Nations Trophy, coming up out of the European Championship 2011 Ireland and Russia. The games of the third party against the Fourth are taken from the preliminary group.
