2011 World Allround Speed Skating Championships

The 105 all-around world championship ( 69 women ) took place between 13 February 2011 at Calgary, Canada of 12. The competitions were held in the Olympic Oval. After 1990 (women only ), 1992 (men only ) and 2006 Calgary was the fourth time the host of the all-around world championship.

In the women's Ireen Wuest won for the second time after 2007 the title and always reached also in the last five all-around world championships the podium. Across all four distances Wüst reached a top 3 result. Christine Nesbitt won silver in front of last year's winner Martina Sáblíková. Sáblíková crashed in the final race, lost vital seconds and then forgave the safe silver and possible gold medal. For men, Ivan Skobrew was all-around world champion for the first time. He won ahead of Håvard Bokko and Jan Blokhuijsen.

The DESG nominated only three athletes for the World Cup. When the women came Stephanie Beckert and Isabell Ost, at among men Robert Lehmann against international competition. Due to the weak performance at the European Championships at first only two places could be won, but the ISU later forgave a third start authorization. Beckert won the individual track in the 5,000 m and 3,000 m was third, came by weaker results in the short distances but not over 12th place out. About 500 m and 5,000 m, it achieved personal bests. East scored personal bests at all distances and finished 18th Lehmann rushed to kick off over 500 meters and played as in the overall standings do not matter.

Competition

In the all-around World Cup is over four distances. The women run 500, 3,000, 1,500 and 5,000 meters and the men's 500, 5,000, 1,500 and 10,000 meters. Any spilled Single Track Time is downscaled to seconds and added to 500 m. The sum gives the total number of points. For the last distance ( 5,000 m Frauen/10.000 m men) occur at only twelve participants. Will be admitted athletes who are both in the overall standings after three distances as well as via the second longest distance ( 3000 m Frauen/5.000 m men ) among the top 12, plus the top ranked athletes in the standings or in the individual ranking on the second longest distance.
