2011 World Championship of Ski Mountaineering

The VI. World Cup ski mountaineering was originally supposed to take place in March 2012. The International Council for Ski Mountaineering Competitions ( ISMC ) opted in 2008 for a host in Austria, in the region of Schladming, in fact, however, the event took place in 2011 in the Italian city Claut.

Claut had also applied to host. Crucial to the contract for Schladming was the positive experience in the implementation of the triple Dachstein Xtreme by ASKIMO well as the successes of the Austrian national squad in the competition ski mountaineering at the international level. The decision of the ISMC for a discharge in Schladming under the leadership of the Austrian Association of Wettkampfskibergsteiger ASKIMO took place just days before the decision of the Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS ), which on 29 May 2008, the Styrian town to host the Alpine World Skiing Championships 2013 chose.

So that the World Cup would have been in 2012 for the first time held outside of the Western Alps and the Pyrenees. The plan failed, but after intensive preparations by the ASKIMO on sports policy resistances of the recognition of the sport of ski mountaineering as an official sport in Austria. Due to unavailable funding and lack of support of ASKIMO 2010 was forced to cancel Austria as the venue. In a fast-track procedure the World Cup to its competitor Claut could be sold, which had to bring forward the event by one year ( to 2011). Thus, the World Championships will take place in the future in the odd years, tailored to the Winter Olympics, which are held in even years, in the hope that even ski mountaineering can participate in the future in mind.
