The Milwaukee IndyFest 2012 was held on 16 June at the Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wisconsin, United States and instead was the eighth race of the IndyCar Series season of 2012.

Background
After the Firestone 550 Will Power led the Drivers' Championship with 36 points ahead of Scott Dixon with 48 points ahead of James Hinchcliffe. At the engine manufacturers Chevrolet led with 3 points ahead of Honda with 26 points, ahead of Lotus.
With Dario Franchitti, Tony Kanaan ( twice each ), Ryan Briscoe and Dixon (once each ) were four former winners of this race. With Ryan Hunter -Reay also attended a driver who had at this track, won the Time Warner Cable Road Runner 250, a Champ Car race.
Training
In the first session Josef Newgarden achieved the fastest lap before Hélio Castroneves and EJ Viso. There was no interruption of training through a yellow phase. In the second session Justin Wilson set the fastest time. Second was Newgarden before Castroneves.
Qualifying
The starting grid for Milwaukee IndyFest was determined by a qualifying individual time trial mode. Each pilot was driving behind the other two flying laps and total time was crucial for the result.
Franchitti posted the fastest time and won the pole position after he had not come in the top 10 in training. Second was before Wilson Hunter -Reay. Rubens Barrichello scored with a fifth place his best ever qualifying result in the IndyCar Series.
Due to premature engine change occurred seven punitive transfers in the grid. Were affected Briscoe, Mike Conway, Dixon, Newgarden, Power, Takuma Satō and Wilson.
Race
The start of the Milwaukee IndyFest was postponed by 90 minutes after the back, as it had initially been raining and the track had to be dried.
Franchitti initially led the race until the 63rd round, but fell back after that. While Newgarden after only 48 laps with technical problems, task Simona de Silvestro broke in the 66th round of the first caution period, as they had turned into turn four. She retired from there. In the 142nd lap finally took Hunter -Reay the lead and kept it until the end of the race. A little later Tony Kanaan went to Castroneves into second place.
After it had come in the 182nd lap to a caution period due to moisture in the third corner, an accident Franchittis in the 195th lap triggers another caution period. Franchitti had beaten in a duel with Briscoe Briscoe on the grass and had it lightly touches. One lap later, Franchitti hit at the same point in the wall. The trigger was probably a result of damage after the collision.
Hunter -Reay finally won his first race in the 2012 season before Canaan and his teammate Hinchcliffe. He was also the first win of the season Andretti Autosport, the team boss Michael Andretti acted as promoter for this event. Oriol Servia made in the race 16 places well and finished fourth. Viso, Castroneves, Alex Tagliani, Ed Carpenter, Graham Rahal and Barrichello completed the top 10 Carpenter first came into this season within the first ten drivers to the finish.
