292nd Infantry Division (Wehrmacht)

The 292nd Infantry Division was a military major unit of the Army of the Wehrmacht.

Division history

The division was established in February 1940 in Groß Born / Pomerania as part of the eighth -up shaft. For the western campaign, the division was moved to Aachen and crossed the Meuse at Montherme. On the Oise -Aisne Canal, there were several combat operations. After crossing the Marne, the 292nd Infantry Division was involved in the fighting of Soilly and Try.

1941, the division was used as part of Operation Barbarossa on the Polish- Soviet frontier. On June 20, 1941 laid pioneers of PiBtl. 179 a pontoon bridge at Drohiczin - Rogawka over the bow, so that the 292nd and 78th were able to translate with heavy equipment. The IR 507, 508 and 509 overcame the river under the protection of artillery with hose and assault boats. On June 26, 1941 IR 508 reached the Białowieża Forest, where the Red Army tied the attacker for several days in a heavy forest fight. In addition, soldiers of the 292nd Infantry Division were involved in the fighting around the Elnya Bow (July to September 1941), the kettle shafts of Roslawl and Klintsy and the double battle of Wjasma and Bryansk. During the thrust to Moscow, the 292nd Infantry Division was stopped at Akulowo and Nikolskije.

In January 1942, the remnants of the 292nd Infantry Division, ID 183 and ID 255 were included in the group " Seeger " and fought at the positions of the Istra River. During the year 1943, the 292nd Infantry Division in the company buffalo movement, the companies Gypsy Baron and the company was involved citadel of Army Group Centre. The year 1944 was marked by defensive and rearguard actions between Pripyat and Bug.

1945, the Division moved back to East Prussia. In the encirclement battle of Heiligenbeil she was crushed and dissolved on April 4, 1945.
