44th Berlin International Film Festival
The 44th International Film Festival Berlin took place until February 21, 1994 by February 10.

In the official competition, the following films were shown this year:
International Jury
President of this year's international jury was the Briton Jeremy Thomas. Under his leadership, members of the jury selected the winners: Tschynggys Aitmatov, Maria Luis Bemberg, Hsu Feng, Morgan Freeman, Francis Girod, Corinna Harfouch, Carlo Lizzani, Wolfram Schütte, Susan Seidelman, Hayao Shibata and Dave Kehr.
Award winners
- Golden Bear: The Golden Bear was the film In the Name of the Father by Jim Sheridan.
- Silver Bears were distributed in the following categories: Best Director: Krzysztof Kieslowski
- Best Actress: Crissy rock for the film Ladybird, Ladybird
- Best Actor: Tom Hanks for Philadelphia
- For outstanding individual performance: Alain Resnais
- For a special artistic performance: Semyon Aranowitsch
- Special Jury Prize: Tomás Gutiérrez Alea and Juan Carlos Tabío
Honorary Golden Bear
For her life's work Sophia Loren received an Honorary Golden Bear.
Children's Film Festival
This year, the Crystal Bear was awarded the Children's Film Festival at the Berlinale for the first time. The first winner was the Australian film Matilda Bell of David Elfick.
