A Tribe Called Quest

A Tribe Called Quest is an American hip hop group which is allocated to the Genres Alternative hip-hop and jazz rap. The band was founded in 1985, disbanded in 1998 and revived in 2006. The members of the group were and are the MCs Q-Tip, Phife Dawg and Jarobi White and DJ and producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad.

A Tribe Called Quest is considered by the sometimes philosophical, sometimes socially critical texts as well as the frequently from jazz samples ( jazz rap) arranged pieces as one of the fans for the East Coast Sounds favorite hip-hop groups.

History

Q-Tip and Phife grew up in Queens and learned at an early age in the church know. Their common origin thematize A Tribe Called Quest, among others, in the song Check the Rhime on their second album The Low End Theory. Later Q-Tip and Phife Muhammad met in high school. In the same school, the Jungle Brothers, a hip- hop band, which later belonged to the Native Tongue Family also went. By a band member of the Jungle Brothers were known with DJ Red Alert, which should help them to break through. The Jungle Brothers were also the ones who coined the name of A Tribe Called Quest, after the band previously only referred to himself as a quest. The Native Tongues belonged to the Afrocentricity movement and spread the idea that every African American should reflect its heritage.

In August 1989, the first single Description of a Fool was released on a small record label. Previously, Q-Tip had been involved on some tracks from De La Soul 3 Feet High and Rising LP and Deee -Lite Groove Is In The Heart.

A Tribe Called Quest in 1989 went to Jive Records and released in the same year her first album People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. In 1990, she landed a hit with Bonita Applebum. On The Low End Theory they got the support of bassist Ron Carter, who had played with Miles Davis and John Coltrane. 2003, A Tribe Called Quest teamed up again; a single was released and an album was announced.

In 2011, the documentary Beats, Rhymes & Life was: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest released, showing the history of the band from its founding to the reunion tour in 2008. It was directed by actor Michael Rapaport.
