With the opening of the railway line hair -Aachen - Rothe Erde 31 December 1875 the railway station, who was then still called Rothe wore earth opened from Aachen's railway industry. Especially after the forced removal of Adolph Kirdorf the Aachen huts shares Association Rothe Erde railway station served initially as a transfer station for the connected here tracks of various industrial enterprises in Rothe Erde. As a first exclusive freight station he made connections to the coal mines in neighboring Belgium and Aachen, North District and the quarries in Stolberg ago. Ten years after the opening was recorded with the Vennbahn connect through Monschau and Sankt Vith to Luxembourg and thus linked the station to the local Arbed steel plants. At the same time the new depot Aachen- Rothe was built earth.

Since 1880, the station serves the passenger. To accomplish a crossing-free passage of rail traffic on an increasingly important arterial road, today's Triererstraße, the train tracks were laid about 100 meters towards the city in 1892. They used it from the site waste towards the center, but retained by the original Wallaufschüttungen elevation profile of routes on. The original route ran through a portion of today's railway path to the intersection with the Trier road and continue on today Clermontstraße and the herb Miihlenweg as well as the current site of a small garden. At the bridge over the Erzberger Allee old and new route come together again.

The building of the passenger station was also rebuilt and integrated into the embankment. This arrangement is to be found today. Immediately adjacent to the station building closed at the bridge over the Triererstraße, which provoked renewed traffic problems due to their small width of 12 meters. 1898 these were exacerbated by the opening of the tram line to fire, which was passed despite dual-track expansion only single track under the railway line. Later, the bridge had to be widened.

Beginning of the 20th century it was renamed the Aachen- Rothe Erde. The depot was built in 1932 disbanded.

During World War II, the station was badly damaged, blown up the bridge over the Triererstraße. Not until 1946 was the connection Aachen - Cologne resume. Since it was set in the aftermath of the transport of steel, coke and lime, the train station as the transfer of goods became less important. Only the connections to Aachen North Station with the resident wagon factory Talbot and the Aachen Philips works at the Vennbahn remained in operation. In contrast, the Rothe Erde railway station was strengthened in passenger traffic on the line Aachen - Cologne used. In 2004, the goods shed were eventually demolished and the old and now disused railway land largely leveled for the construction of the shopping center Aachen Arkaden.

In 2013 the construction of a new, closed car wash began on the site of the former goods station. You to replace the old, open facility in Aachen Main Station to ensure external cleaning of trains in winter can. For reasons of space, it was decided for the site in Rothe Erde, is also to be increasingly used as parking area, while in Aachen Hbf mainly technical maintenance work to be carried out.
