Achocalla Municipality

The municipality Achocalla is a district in the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

The municipality Achocalla is one of five Municipalities of the province of Murillo and is located in the southwestern part of the province. It is bordered to the west by the province Ingavi, to the south by the province of flavor, to the east by the municipality of Mecapaca, on the northeast by the municipality of La Paz, and on the northwest by the municipality of El Alto.

The municipality has 21 localities ( Localidades ), the central location of the municipality is Achocalla with 10,369 inhabitants ( 2001 census ) in the northern part of the county.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the edge of the Achocalla Bolivian Altiplano at an average altitude of 3800 m directly west of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central in the east. The mean average temperature of the municipality lies at 10 ° C, the annual precipitation is less than 600 mm. The region has a pronounced diurnal climate, the monthly average temperatures vary only slightly between 8 ° C in July and 12 ° C in December. the monthly rainfall range from less than 10 mm during the months of June to August and about 100 mm in January.

The municipality had at the last census of 2001, a population density of 67 inhabitants / km ², the life expectancy of newborns was 61.4 years, and the infant mortality rate was 7.9 per cent ( 1992) declined to 6.7 percent.

The literacy rate for those over 19 years is 82.5 percent, and 94.1 percent, although in men and 71.7 percent for women ( 2001).

84.4 percent of the population speak Spanish, 79.3 percent speak Aymara, Quechua and 0.9 percent. (2001)

33.9 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 77.9 percent have no sanitary facilities ( 2001).
