Short description of the business units

ARM Platinum

The ARM Platinum Division comprises four sectors of mining on platinum metals. These are three mines and a sensing field. It will be produced as a result of reclamation work and their further processing following metals: platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium and iridium, also nickel, cobalt, copper and gold.

The Modikwa Platinum Mine is located north- west of the city Burgersfort, which is operated by a differentiated group of owners. This keeps the ARM Mining Consortium, 50 percent and Anglo American Platinum with 50 percent in equal shares, the shares. ARM Mining Consortium is made up of a majority of shares of ARM and a minority share of Modikwa communities. The ores are discharged for further processing in the smelting and refining facilities of Anglo American Platinum.

Not far from Steelpoort operates ARM (55%) together with Impala Platinum (45%), the Two Rivers Platinum mine. The extraction products are further processed at Impala Refining Services Limited (IRS).

The Nkomati nickel mine in the vicinity of the town of Machadodorp is a joint venture company between ARM and Norilsk Nickel Africa (Pty ) Ltd. , A subsidiary MMC Norilsk Nikel. Here, the extraction of copper is quantified in the foreground after the nickel and chromium production has declined. All ore concentrates are processed and refined by the resident in the Swiss train company Metal Trade Overseas AG ( MTO). It belongs to the company MMC Norilsk Nikel complex.

In the exploration project ( Kalplats PGM Exploration Project) a deposit is examined for their mineability on platinum, palladium and gold. It is planned to test by means of a pilot plant extraction and processing of platinum metals and gold. Taking part are ARM Platinum and Platinum Australia ( PLA). The Australian partner exercises the management of the exploration project.

ARM Ferrous

The extraction of iron and manganese ores in the business goes back to the ARM Ferrous created by merger in 1935 Associated Manganese Mines of South Africa Limited ( AMMOSAL ). That company later created the company Assmang. As 2004 Anglovaal Mining was incorporated into the structures of ARM, came with him as the main shareholder, the Assmang Ltd.. in the division of African Rainbow Mining. Since then Assmang Ltd is. a joint venture between ARM and Assore Limited ( 50/50) and operates the departments iron ore, manganese ore and Chromerzbergbau.

The considerable tonnages in the iron ore mining and smelting require its efficient transport routes. Therefore, the extraction activities are associated with the availability and efficient operation of national transport routes. Several commercial ports of South Africa form the domestic end points of the associated commodity exports. Which are important for the production of steel alloying additions of chromium and manganese are recovered in mines, the away from the coast to the north and east of South Africa are.

At the iron ore division ( Iron Ore Division ) include two mines, the Beeshoek Iron Ore Mine and the Khumani Iron Ore Mine in the Northern Cape. The transport of the ore is carried by rail to the port Saldanha.

The Khumani mine situated 65 kilometers north of the old mining site of Beeshoek, but south of Kathu and close to the Sishen known for its iron ore mining. It produces for international buyers. The Beeshoek mine is located near the town of Postmasburg.

Chromium wins African Rainbows Minerals within its Chrome Division ( Chrome Division ) by Assmang in Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine. This is located about 30 kilometers from Steelpoort in the eastern part of the province of Mpumalanga. Your raw or already mechanically processed degradation products reach the hut operating Machadodorp Ferrochrome Works in Machadodorp. Final products are supplied from here on the road or rail to Richards Bay or lying in Mozambique port of Maputo.

For manganese Department ( Manganese Division ) of ARM Ferrous include two mines and processing plant Cato Ridge ferromanganese Works. The two mining areas, Nchwaning mine and Gloria Manganese Mines are located in the extreme northeast of the Northern Cape Province north west of the town of Kuruman. Their products are on the rail and road route to Cato Ridge smelter Alloys ( Pty) Ltd.. transported in Cato Ridge to supply Japanese and German buyers from there across the harbor in Port Elizabeth. Cato Ridge Alloys is a joint venture of Assmang, Mizushima Ferroalloy Company Limited and Sumitomo Corporation. Go the deliveries to the port of Richards Bay for the direct export of mining products. Ore concentrates also connects you to Machadodorp in Mpumalanga, where they are processed for export on. In the mine of Nchwaning raw materials are obtained from the Kalahari Manganerzgebiet ( Kalahari Manganese Field ) collected from a Proterozoic sedimentary structure.

With the Mozambican exploration company Rovuma Resources, a majority company of Rock Over Resources in Road Town in the British Virgin Islands, an agreement has been concluded that with an annual expense of 7 million U.S. dollars by the ARM, the search for deposits in Mozambique to mineable reserves of manganese ores allows, nickel, platinum group metals and base metals. Thus, the ARM wants to secure further activities to deposit exploratory and possible degradation.

The company TEAL Exploration & Mining Inc. operates today (2013 ) as a subsidiary of ARM and its Brazilian partner company Companhia Vale do Rio Doce in exploration and reservoir development.
