Ahmet Ayık

Ahmet Ayik ( born March 31, 1938 in Eskiköy, Sivas ) is a former Turkish wrestlers and sports official.

Career

Ayik grew up in Doğanşar. About the traditional Turkish wrestling match he came up with 18 years for modern competition - rings and soon rose to the best Turkish freestyle wrestlers. The coach Celal Atik and Ismet Atli had this great merit. In 1961 he was Turkish middleweight champion for the first time. From 1962, he started with great success also in international championships. He was the only wrestler of his time, the outstanding Soviet wrestler Alexander Medved could not defeat. On the other hand, get Ayik victories over Medvedev, Shota Lomidse and Ivan Yarygin. The greatest success Ayıks was the Olympic gold medal in 1968 in Mexico City, after he had already won the silver medal in Tokyo in 1964.

Ayik is now a businessman and from 1997 to 2000, President of the Turkish wrestler Association. For his contributions to the sport wrestler he was inducted into the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2004.
