Airbus Defence and Space

Airbus Defence and Space, is a subsidiary of Airbus Group, specializing in commercial and military aircraft and space systems. The company is evident from the previous EADS Divisions Cassidian, Airbus Military and Astrium.

Divisions

Airbus Defence and Space is divided into four divisions:

Military Aircraft Systems

The Military Aircraft Systems Division was created from the merger of the former EADS Cassidian Division and Airbus Military.

Space Systems

The Space Systems division emerged from the divisions Astrium Space Transportation and Satellites.

The product range consists of:

  • Launch vehicles ( commercial and military, including for the French strategic naval forces - FOST ); Ariane (rocket ) and the Automated Transfer Vehicle
  • Orbital systems; Columbus ( ISS)
  • ENS - satellite ( Earth Observation, Navigation and Science), Gaia ( spacecraft ) and Rosetta (probe)

Communication, Intelligence & Security

The Communication, Intelligence & Security business unit was reorganized and is responsible for the products for satellite and terrestrial communications as well as for services and solutions in the fields of intelligence and security.

The product range consists of:

Electronics

In the new Electronics Division of the powers of the previous divisions are combined ground-based, sea-, air - and space-based applications for defense and security applications as well as civilian markets in the area.

History

After the merger between EADS and the British defense contractor BAE Systems had failed, saw EADS CEO Tom Enders Because of changing market structures in the European aeronautics and space industry demand for reform of EADS. With the restructuring of the parent company Cassidian, Astrium and Airbus Military are now merged, so as to be better positioned to increase competitiveness and to improve the overall market position.

The restructuring began on 1 January 2014.
