Alabel, Sarangani

Alabel is an administrative community in the Philippine province of Sarangani in the southern island of Mindanao.

The community is home to the seat of the provincial government of Sarangani.

Geography

The parish is bounded on the south by the Municipality of Malapatan, on the north by Malungon, to the west is General Santos City and Sarangani Bay; in the east borders the municipality of Malita from the province of Davao del Sur to Alabel.

Economy

The economy of Alabel based on agriculture. The production of dried coconut meat ( copra ) accounts for the largest share. In addition, the livestock, especially cattle, represents the second largest source of income

Other agricultural products are next to coconuts, maize, sugarcane, bananas, pineapples and mangoes also pork, beef, eggs and of course fish.

History

Around 1947 lived mainly the families of Santiago Alaba and Tomas Beldad in Buayan. The place was on 17 September 1956, a barrio of the municipality of Dadiangas (now General Santos ) and got the name Alabel in honor of the two families.

On September 10, 1971 Alabel was appointed by the Republic Act No. 6393 to an administrative community

The community included eight Barrios: Poblacion, Alegria, Maribulan, Pag - asa, Kawas, Domolok, Bagacay and Tokawal. Spring, Baluntay, Datal Anggas and Paraiso were newly formed between 1986 and 1989, so that the community has since composed of twelve barangays.

Since the enactment of Republic Act No. 7228 on 16 March 1992 Alabel is the seat of the provincial government of the newly formed province of Sarangani.
