Alamodome

The Alamodome is a closed multifunction hall in San Antonio, Texas. The hall was opened in 1993 and is primarily used as a football and basketball stadiums, as well as an exhibition hall. The ground capacity is 65,000 for football games, but is expandable to 72,000.

History

The Alamodome was built to offer the owners of the San Antonio Spurs a bigger venue. By building a multi-purpose hall was also aimed to attract more conventions and a professional football team. After ten years, the Spurs, however, were dissatisfied with the stadium and convinced Bexar County to build them a new arena. You play there in the AT & T Center.

In the future, the University of Texas at San Antonio will use the Alamodome as the home of their football team. The football team is currently under construction. The first NCAA championship game was held on 3 September 2011.

Events

The Alamodome is the venue of the annual Alamo Bowl, which is usually held between the teams fourth choice of Big Ten Conference and the Big 12 Conference. The previous attendance record of the stadium was achieved in 2007 when the game between Texas A & M and Penn State drew 66 166 spectators.

In the years 1998, 2004 and 2008, the Final Four basketball tournament, the NCAA took place at the Alamodome. In 2010, the women's finals will be held again at the Alamodome.

There were also several concerts held at the Alamodome. On November 23, 1997 U2 gave a concert here in the context of their Popmart tour. Britney Spears appeared on 20 July 2000 during her Oops! ... I Did It Again World Tour and again on 15 July 2002 during her Dream Within a Dream Tour.
