Background

On September 21, 2001 Spears gave a tour known that she wanted to start in two months. In February 2002, Spears announced to continue the then successful tour. The tour was run by Spears' choreographer Wade Robson. The stage was designed by Steve Cohen and Rob Brenner. The stage consists of a main stage and a "B - stage", which are connected by a further long, narrow stage. Enthusiastic Spears was the duty crane that lifted a floating island, so Spears could fly above the audience to "B - stage". The setlist was mostly of songs composed by the presented album, as Spears said that she would best reflect their personality. The songs from their previous two studio albums were also included in the remix form by Wade Robson.

The show was divided into seven segments, with the last addition is. Spears opened the show so that it hangs on a circular wheel; when she sang ... Baby One More Time, she jumped with bungee cords from the floating island on the stage, and I'm a Slave 4 You, she danced in a jungle scene. Most performances were accompanied by extravagant special effects, including confetti, Feuerwerkörper, laser lights and artificial fog and snow. In addition, there was a water screen that pumped two tons of water into the stage. During the second part of the tour in 2002 some changes were made; several songs were mixed into unreleased songs. The show received mixed reviews by critics, who praised the show for being innovative, but they criticized for taking away the attention from the music.

The Dream Within a Dream Tour was largely sold and redeemed 43.7 million gross dollars. During the second show in Mexico Spears left the stage after the fifth song, due to a lightning storm. The show was canceled, which caused an uproar in the audience. The show in Las Vegas on November 18, 2001 was taken up by HBO and sold as a DVD titled Live from Las Vegas. This concert film won an Emmy in 2002.
