Bossier City ( fr.: Ville de Bossier ) is a city in Bossier Parish in northwestern U.S. state of Louisiana. In 2010, Bossier City had 61 315 inhabitants, whose number rose to estimate 2012 to 64 655. Bossier City is located across from the larger town of Shreveport on the Red River and is part of the metropolitan area of Shreveport - Bossier City.
Geography
Bossier City is located in northwestern Louisiana. According to United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 107.7 km ², of which 106 km ² of land and 1.7 km ² is water area. The city lies on the Red River, is separated by the Bossier City from the urban area of Shreveport.
Population
According to the census in 2010 lived in Bossier City 61 315 people in 23,866 households. The population density was 578.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 23,866 households lived statistically 2.5 persons each.
The racial the population was composed of 65.4 percent white, 25.6 percent African American, 0.5 percent Native American, 2.0 percent Asian, 0.2 percent and 3.5 percent Polynesians from other ethnic groups; 2.7 percent were descended from two or more races. Nearby Bossier City Barksdale Air Force Base is home to the 2nd Bomb Wing, the U.S. 8th Air Force and the 917th Wing. It was established on 2 February 1933 and is one of the largest employers in the region. The base covers 89 km ².
Sports and gambling
Bossier City is home to the Bossier - Shreveport Battle Wings, an arena football team. Also located in Bossier City Bossier - Shreveport Mudbugs were, an ice hockey team that played in the Central Hockey League.
The city is a Mecca of gambling, with casinos along the Red River and horse racing at Harrah 's Louisiana Downs, which opened in 1974.
