History

The Bossier Parish was formed in 1843 from parts of Claiborne Parish. It was named after Pierre Bossier (1797-1844), a former member of the House of Representatives of the United States.

The first county seat was Freedonia, which was later renamed in Society Hill and is now known as Bellevue. 1850 had the Bossier Parish 6952 inhabitants.
