St. Mary Parish, Louisiana

The St. Mary Parish (French: Paroisse de Sainte- Marie) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In 2010, the Parish had 54.650 inhabitants and a population density of 34.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Franklin.

Geography

The Parish is located in southern Louisiana, bordering the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of ​​2898 square kilometers, of which 1311 square miles are water.

The largest watercourse in St. Mary Parish is the Atchafalaya River, a tributary of the Mississippi and common of the Red River, which flows south of Morgan City into the sea.
