East Carroll Parish, Louisiana
The East Carroll Parish (French: Paroisse de Carroll Est) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In 2010, the Parish had 7759 inhabitants and a population density of 7.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Lake Providence.
Geography
The Parish is located in the far northeastern Louisiana, Arkansas bordered to the north and to the east by the Mississippi River, which forms the border with the state of Mississippi. The East Carroll Parish has an area of 1146 square kilometers, of which 54 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following Parishes and Counties:
History
The East Carroll Parish was formed in 1877 by division of Carroll Parish. It was named after Charles Carroll (1737-1832), a signer of the Declaration of Independence of the United States.

According to the census in 2000 living in East Carroll Parish, 9,421 people in 2,969 households and 2,140 families. The population density was 9 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 31.60 percent White, 67.29 percent Black or African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 0.33 percent Asian, and 0.25 percent from other races; 0.35 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.19 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 2,969 households out of which 36.5 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 40.0 percent were married couples living together, 27.7 percent were single mothers, 27.9 percent were non-families, 25.6 percent of all households and 11.3 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.82 and the average family size was 3.40 persons.
In relation to the parish the population was spread out 30.3 percent of residents under the age of 18, 11.5 percent between 18 and 24 years, 27.2 percent between 25 and 44 years, 18.5 percent between 45 and 64 years and 12.5 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 104.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106.9 males.
The median income for a household was $ 20,723, and the median income for a family was $ 24,554. Males have a median income of $ 22,099, women $ 18,672. The per capita income was $ 9,629. 32.6 percent of families 40.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 56.8 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 32.7 percent of those 65 years.
