Lincoln Parish, Louisiana
The Lincoln Parish (French: Paroisse de Lincoln) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In 2010, the Parish had 46 735 inhabitants and a population density of 38.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Ruston.
Geography
The Parish is located in northern Louisiana, is about 30 km from Arkansas and has an area of 1223 square kilometers, of which two square miles are water. It is bordered by the following Parishes:
History
The Lincoln Parish was formed in 1873 from parts of Bienville Parish, Claiborne Parish of, the Jackson Parish and Union Parish. It was named after Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), the sixteenth President of the United States.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000, lived in Lincoln Parish 42,509 people in 15,235 households and 9,689 families. The population density was 35 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 57.42 percent White, 39.84 percent Black or African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 1.28 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.52 percent from other races groups; 0.75 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.16 per cent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 15,235 households out of which 30.0 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 44.5 percent were married couples living together, 15.3 percent were single mothers, 36.4 percent were non-families, 27.0 percent of all households and 9.4 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 3.01.
In relation to the parish the population was spread out 22.1 percent of residents under the age of 18, 25.7 percent between 18 and 24 years, 23.2 percent between 25 and 44 years, 17.6 percent between 45 and 64 years and 11.3 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 26 years. For every 100 females there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.9 males.
The median income for a household was $ 26,977, and the median income for a family was $ 38,972. Males had a median income of $ 32,376, women $ 20,877. The per capita income was $ 14,313. 18.2 percent of families 26.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 30.1 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 18.1 percent of those 65 years.
