Evangeline Parish, Louisiana

The Evangeline Parish (French: Paroisse d' Évangéline ) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In the census in 2010, the Parish had 33,984 inhabitants and a population density of 19.8 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Ville Platte.

History

The Evangeline Parish was formed in 1910 from parts of St. Landry Parish. The first settlers were German, French, Spaniards, Scots and Irish, the French share of the population was greatest and has maintained a French- Creole mixture until today.
