Evangeline Parish, Louisiana

The Evangeline Parish (French: Paroisse d' Évangéline ) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In the census in 2010, the Parish had 33,984 inhabitants and a population density of 19.8 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Ville Platte.


The Parish is located just west of the geographic center of Louisiana, is in the south about 100 km from the Gulf of Mexico, also located in the west about 100 miles from Texas and has an area of ​​1760 square kilometers, of which 40 square kilometers are water surface. The Evangeline Parish was formed in 1910 from parts of St. Landry Parish. The first settlers were German, French, Spaniards, Scots and Irish, the French share of the population was greatest and has maintained a French- Creole mixture until today.
